Short Term Policies

Gap coverage or Short Term policies were originally designed to help people maintain consistent coverage between jobs.  Because these plans are underwritten and do not cover maternity, they do not comply with the ACA's definition of health insurance.  However, for many people, these plans are a great solution to finding affordable insurance that meets their needs.  These policies can be set up to last from 30 days to 12 months depending on your needs, with deductibles that range from $2,500 to $15,000 per policy term.

ACA Health Insurance Policies

ACA (Affordable Care Act) compliant plans are required to meet a specific set of standards set forth by the government.  These plans CANNOT be underwritten and are required to cover ALL pre-existing conditions.  These plans can only be purchased during the open enrollment time period which typically runs each year from November 1st to December 15th.  You can also apply during the year if you have a qualifying event such as marriage, birth or loss of other group coverage.  Depending on your income you may qualify for subsidies that reduce the cost that you pay for the coverage.  The below link will help you see if you qualify and compare plans available in your area.
